I use baby name books and a really great website I found on the internet that gives you common last names and a whole directory of first names. I play it like a game because it's like naming one of my children!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3636039236525599501.post-26140039794472790212010-12-21T14:29:40.095-08:002010-12-21T14:29:40.095-08:00Hi Abbi!

Googling to make sure you're not using an actual person's name is the most difficult part. It's hard to come up with a realistic sounding name that doesn't belong to anyone!Wendy S Marcushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09590562856819593365noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3636039236525599501.post-79976187267731761872010-12-15T06:39:05.270-08:002010-12-15T06:39:05.270-08:00Thanks, Elissa. But in the midst (ten chapters in) of my current WIP I've realised that I don't like my heroine's name so I'm intending on changing it but for the moment (while the story is rolling along) I've continued to use the old name but it feels like clunky.

I don't think there are any short cuts if you like your characters to have a name before you start - perhaps the interview is the way to go for you.Elissa Grahamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11415274389691816585noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3636039236525599501.post-25536117533200825322010-12-14T14:37:24.417-08:002010-12-14T14:37:24.417-08:00Funny thing is, Nas, my next post was going to be ...Funny thing is, Nas, my next post was going to be about interviewing your characters. I've read in craft books that you have to interview your characters....maybe then the characters can introduce themselves!Nashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14984530648140460594noreply@blogger.com
